Forensic odontologists

Forensic Odontology is the identification discipline based upon the recognition of unique features present in each person's dental structures. (Johnson, n.d.) This technology is used whenever identification by the fingerprints is impossible. The dentist who practice forensic odontology are professionals who have detailed knowledge of the teeth and jaws. This method of forensic identification plays an exceptionally important role in man-made accidents and natural disasters.

In these scenarios, especially when fingerprints have been destroyed, it is impossible to identify through conventional methods like using fingerprints. For example, during a plane crash or explosion, the teeth are the strongest elements in the human body that survives in the fire or exposure to the elements.(Johnson, n.d.)
